Did you know that over 5 million acts of domestic violence occur yearly to women aged 18 and older?

Sit with these numbers for a moment.

Do you know the term IPV?

It is intimate partner violence. IPV is abuse or aggression that occurs in a romantic relationship. “Intimate partner” refers to both current and former spouses and dating partners. It can be one act of violence or be chronic.

IPV can include physical and sexual violence, stalking, and psychological aggression.

The effects of IPV are both mental and physical. IPV triggers numerous chronic illnesses and diseases. is abuse or aggression that occurs in a romantic relationship. “Intimate partner” refers to current and former spouses and dating partners. Over 61 million women and 53 million men have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Research shows that IPV starts early. Yes, it begins in our homes. It begins with neglect and people (usually family members violating children). Once the cycle is started, it continues. Have you ever stopped to look at the amount of sexual abuse in homes? The numbers are staggering and what we know is what is reported. What about violence in general? Yelling, screaming, shouting, pushing, hitting, restraining (yes, time outs a restrain), scratching, kicking, and choking, to name a few. Add in emotional abuse, the looks of nonverbal communication, and the words stated. It's about control and making a child feel worthless.
